fuck being sad, Iโm so over it
Chey is a hilarious mess of a character to me--and always has done his own thing; he's never felt totally under my control. When I adopted his design, I'd thought of EoI as being done (haha!) but really--they were, as a unit, complete. I wasn't low on people to play instruments, I didn't feel like something was missing--but I saw Chey's design and something in my brain was like 'buy him. He's going in EoI.' So I did. His name's just hysterical to me-- I was having a Timeโข and I named him Kaspar, after one of the protagonists in Klass, a movie about a school shooting--and Chey was like, "Sweet shit. Anyway I'm absolutely not using that. My middle name's Cheyenne. I go by Chey. But pronounced with a hard 'ch' because why not. You just stopped at an airport in Reykjavik--that's a rad last name." and that was that. I wanted to call him Kaspar, I really did. But he was just like, "nah."
I started building him up and for some reason, he was breaking the EoI mould. He wasn't getting rescued by Seth. He was walking into their lives upright and smiling and for some reason, he knew Anarchy. All of a sudden, Anarchy had more of a past. I'd known he'd been a victim of trafficking, knew about his dad, knew about the heroin use--but suddenly I had Chey and everything started falling into place a bit more. Chey talks to me like none of the others; when he shared his life with me it didn't feel like my creation; it felt like his history--when he "shares" it really feels like I'm being told something. I was astonished when he told me in full about his past, was blown away when I learned about his issues with self-forgiveness. He's complex and somewhat unpredictable and has a personality that I really can't tame. He likes music that I can't stand the sound of, wears outfits I don't want to have to draw. I wanted his favorite color to be blue but it's yellow, I wanted to give him a pet spider but he wanted sugar gliders.
So here he is, this disaster of a character--who may well have taken first place as my favorite member of EoI--with his illegally owned sugar gliders. JayyVon (named for Jayy Von Monroe of BOTDF) on our left, and Libertine (Named for Eve Libertine of Crass) on our right.
